The Talkative Tortoise 🐢🦢 (A Panchatantra Moral Story for Kids)

Once upon a time, in a peaceful forest pond, lived a very talkative tortoise and his two best friends – graceful swans named Swati and Suraj. This classic Panchatantra story teaches us a valuable life lesson through a simple tale of friendship, wisdom, and the power of silence.

🌳 Life at the Pond

Tortoise and swans near a pond

Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, there was a peaceful pond. Two graceful swans lived there, and so did a cheerful tortoise named Tutu. All three were the best of friends. Tutu loved to talk — oh, how he could talk! He could go on and on about anything — the sky, the trees, the fish, the clouds!

☀️ Trouble Begins – The Drying Pond

One summer, something terrible happened — it didn’t rain for many months. Slowly, the water in the pond began to dry up. The swans, Swati and Suraj, were worried. “We must find a new pond,” they told Tutu.

Swati and Suraj flew across forests and valleys. At last, they found a sparkling new pond, full of cool, clean water. “This will be perfect!” they said happily.

💡 A Clever Plan to Help Their Friend

But there was one problem — Tutu couldn’t fly. “Don’t worry,” said Suraj. “We’ll bring a strong stick. You hold it tight with your mouth, and we’ll carry you in the air.”

“But,” warned Swati, “you MUST not speak while flying, Tutu. If you open your mouth, you’ll fall!”

Tutu laughed, “Ha ha! Don’t worry, I’ll stay quiet like a rock.”

🕊️ Flying Tortoise – A Sight to See

The next day, they set off. Tutu clamped his mouth tightly on the stick. Up, up they went into the sky! It was a sight to see — two swans flying with a tortoise hanging between them.

A group of villagers pointing up in the sky, laughing and shouting in amazement.

As they flew over a village, people came out and stared at the sky. “Look! Look at that funny tortoise flying!” they laughed. “How strange! How clever!”

😢 The Fall of the Talkative Tortoise

The tortoise looking angry and opening his mouth to shout, while still in the air.

Tutu heard the voices and puffed up with pride. “I’ll show them how smart I am,” he thought. He forgot the warning and opened his mouth to speak, “I’m not just—”

Tortoise falling from sky after opening mouth

Oh no! The stick slipped out of his mouth, and poor Tutu began to fall... down... down... down!

The tortoise lying on the ground sadly, while the swans look down with tears.

With a loud thud, he hit the ground. The villagers ran to help, but it was too late. The poor tortoise had learned a painful lesson.
